The Company History
ADA COMMERCIAL originally started as a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) called ADA Humanitarian, which was engaged in integrating ex-combatants involved in the 14 years of Liberian civil war into the society by providing them with alternative and appropriate income generating activities. This group of unskilled ex-combatants were provided some form of agricultural training. The management of ADA Humanitarian later decided to make agricultural crop production a commercial venture due to the assessed profitability of the enterprise.
ADA COMMERCIAL was therefore formed in 2007. And to ensure food security in Liberia, the company signed a 20-year Concession Agreement with the Government of the Republic of Liberia on April 10, 2008 for the production and distribution of rice in Liberia. This agreement gives ADA Commercial the right to 60,000 hectares in Lofa County (Foya District) and Bong County (Kpatawe District). Although Bong County was originally intended as the first project site, this was later changed to Lofa County where the company currently operates. Another 300,000 ha of private land is available in Nimba County. ADA Humanitarian, the non-profit predecessor of ADA Commercial, had previously undertaken agricultural training and these trainees formed the first group of employees in ADA COMMERCIAL. With funding from the then Libyan Government, ADA COMMERCIAL developed and put 1,700 hectares of land under NERICA rice production. As the funding source for ADA Commercial was cut short in 2009, the company had to suspend operations due to the lack of working capital to support the farm
operations. During 2009 the company went through a major change in management to revitalize the company. A revised feasibility study was developed along with financial and development plans. Moreover, new systems for financial, logistical and operational governance were also put in place to efficiently sustain farm operations. Due to the absence of operational funds, major machine operations were drastically reduced at the beginning of 2010. The year 2010 was then spent on putting several key operational systems in place and planning more efficient clearing operations. Farm operations were completely halted in 2011 due to the lack
of funds. Capital is therefore required to continue and sustain this profitable agribusiness venture. This re-start period is approximately 12 months long and includes two growth cycles in the first year with the first rice scheduled to be processed and sold in December 2015. 2.3 Company Ownership
